The Falcon of Sparta by Conn Iggulden

This was our February Book Club book, a historical yarn from antiquity about Greek and Persian armies slugging it out in the deserts of Mesopotamia. There’s plenty of blood, thunder and lashings of treachery as, eventually, the dastardly villains are thwarted and the unbelievably brave Spartans are led to safety by Xenophon, who emerges as an unlikely hero. Give it a go if you like historical events brought to life in a realistic way.
