Off the Beaten Track in South-East Asia

Fresh back from six months in South-East Asia, Rotarian and professional photographer Charlotte Gale engaged Brigantes members with an interactive insight into her travels, local culture, traditions, history and the amazing APOPO land mine rats.

Charlotte spent four of her six months cultural experience in Cambodia, travelling off the beaten track to lesser visited locations and spending time staying in homestays with local families.

The northeastern province of Ratakaniri, on the Vietnam and Laos borders, was a particular favourite of hers and she was lucky enough to participate in a number of cultural events there with local families, including an 800 people wedding and Khmer (Cambodian) New Year celebrations in April.

Charlotte also spent time in Laos, the Central Highlands of Vietnam and Northern Thailand, including Mae Sot, just 100 metres from the Myanmar border.

All agreed that Charlotte gave a fascinating and engaging insight into South-East Asia life and culture.
