Santas Grotto

Santa's Grotto 2018 takes place at Asda Supermarket, Harrogate commencing on 8th December.  This is a single day, after which the Grotto continues daily from 13 – 23 December.

This is a special time, during the build-up to Christmas, especially for children.  As in previous years, sweets will be provided for the children and obviously Father Christmas will be there from 10:00 to 18:00.

This year the Rotary Club is raising money for the following Charities:

Dementia Forward

Parkinsons UK

Yorkshire Air Ambulance

Other Rotary Supported Charities

In1993 and 1994, a Christmas Sleigh was been taken around housing estates providing seasonal music and a visiting Father Christmas in support of a door-to-door collection.

This sleigh was abandoned in 1995, in favour of a 'Santa's grotto', which was set up at the entrance to the ASDA supermarket. Through the good offices of David Russell, the grotto was built by National Power and was re-erected and dismantled each year until it was replaced in recent years by a simpler format.

The Club is grateful to the management of ASDA for their continuing support over the
22 years of the Grotto. In 2016, the amount collected for charity was well over £5,000 giving a total of just nearly £100,000 over the 22 years.

Numerous charities have benefited over the years including

  • Air Ambulance
  • Skill 4 Living Centre
  • Harrogate Homeless
  • Well Spring Therapy
  • Riding for the Disabled
  • St Michael's Hospice
  • Essential Needs
  • Rotary shelter Box Scheme
  • Dementia Forward
