Denise and Lucy gave the Club a fascinating talk on the Jennyruth Workshops.
These are craft workshops where adults with learning disabilities come to do meaningful work. They learn and apply a wide range of skills and make all kinds of objects which are then sold. These range from Christmas decorations to bird boxes and from book ends to toy boxes, with lots in between. Jennyruth Workshops have received the Duke of York’s Community Initiative Award and currently cater for 28 people. They emphasise working with friends, they focus on what can be achieved and underline the importance of seeing ability rather than disability.
