Harrogate Brigantes Rotary Club are currently celebrating the centenary of Rotary’s own charity, Rotary Foundation, which does amazing work around the world. In particular its Polio Plus campaign has ensured that over 2.5 billion children have been immunised and that the number of
countries where this dreadful disease is endemic has been reduced to just three – Nigeria, Afghanistan and Pakistan. We’ll be holding a two-day book sale in aid of Rotary Foundation from 10am to 4pm on Friday 21st and Saturday 22nd April at St Peter’s Church. The café will be open as well so you can buy some books, have a natter and help conquer polio.
Also on view will be a ShelterBox. ShelterBoxes contain the necessary survival equipment for people rendered homeless by natural disasters. They cost £600 each and, in partnership with local schools, we have provided a number of them in recent years.
And finally, if you have any time left, you can see details of our exciting Nepal project in which we’ve brought the wonders of computer technology and the internet to schools in the remote Panchamul valley.
So, lots to see and do. See you there!
