Next Golf Day 25th May 2017
22nd May 2014 Our Annual Charity Golf Day
This was the fourteenth Golf Day promoted by Brigantes, 13 of which have been held at Oakdale Golf Club. There were a record no of 33 teams from local businesses, private groups and other Rotary Clubs with four players in each team. The match is a Stableford off full handicap with a cut-off at 24 - the best two scores on each hole count.
The main prize for the highest overall score, the Thompson Trophy, was won by Belvoir and the runners-up were PruProtect. The Mayor’s Charity Cup for the best Rotary team was won by Richmond Rotary Club.
There were also two on-course prizes: nearest the pin on hole 9 won by James Milner of Sanderson Weatherall, and the straightest drive on hole 18 won by Craig Pinches of Harrogate Round Table. Hole one was “Double your Money” where players were invited to bet up to £5 that they could land on the green in two - and double their bet. This made a total of £180.
It has always been an enjoyable day for golfers with half-way house refreshments provided by Inner Wheel and a post match Awards Dinner in the Golf-house : most teams come back year after year.
The Golf Day was again a very successful fundraiser making in the region of £5000, and this year the proceeds are going to Young Carers and the Wellspring Young People’s Project. You may be interested to know how the funds are raised on different elements of the day: significant monetary sponsorship from seven organisations (£3000), adverts in the programme (£1125); team entries (£4000); tombola prizes and a silent auction run in the bar during the day (£1000); and an auction of some of the best items donated at the Awards Dinner (£1000).
Some more notes from Kelvin Burkinshaw showing the ‘big picture’ – that’s it for another year!!
Great news, it’s Brigantes Golf Day again and we look to welcoming you again to Oakdale Golf Club in May. We promise you a well organised event, great food, excellent hospitality all at the same entry cost, held steady now for the last 4 years.
We are very happy to continue to support Harrogate Young Carers as our main Charity for this event. They do so much good work.
The main elements of the day are (for an all-inclusive team entry fee of £160):
- A ‘bacon butty’ and welcome coffee/tea on arrival

WELLSPRING THERAPY AND TRAINING
Wellspring is a Counselling and Training Centre aiming to provide a professional counselling service at an affordable rate for the Community.
They are a Christian charity but offer counselling to anyone and only include issues of faith and spirituality if requested at assessment. It is however a unique element of the service that we can offer the opportunity to work holistically so that the client can become whole in body, mind and spirit.
They work to the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) Ethical framework, and all our counsellors are either accredited or working towards accreditation with the Association of Christian Counsellors and/or the BACP.
Contracts are made with each client and their counsellor and the sessions are confidential.
We work with problems such as bereavement and loss, depression and anxiety, childhood traumas and abuse, low self-esteem, relationship difficulties, and stress.
